This is another excellent video showing the inside of the ear. When coding ear infections you will notice they want to know if the tempanic membrane was ruptured or not. There are also codes for traumatic rupture. Take a look at the codes in this area because I suspect you will see them on the CPC exam. Makes for very good coding questions.

To find the codes for traumatic rupture of tympanic membrane, you will look in the index under Rupture, Tympanum, Tympanic Membrane, Traumatic. It will say "see Wound, Open, Ear, Drum." You go to Wound, Open, Ear, Drum and you will find two codes ear drum: 872.61 for uncomplicated and 872.71 for complicated.
